Oklahoma City, OK, United States (AHN) – Dozens of tornadoes ripped through central Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon killing at least eight people, injuring 60 and flattened many homes in several cities of the state.
Five died in Canadian County, two in Logan County and one in Grady County, according to Cherokee Ballard, spokeswoman for the state medical examiner. Three of the Canadian County fatalities’ bodies were found on Interstate 40, where demolished cars were littered.
One toddler in Piedmont in Canadian County remained missing after reportedly being blown away by a twister. Three children from the area were also critically injured, according to Lara O’Leary, spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Services Authority.
From past 3 p.m. until evening, tornadoes were seen in the cities of Guthrie, Newcastle, Chickasha, Stillwater, El Reno, Hinton, Moore, Norman and Fairview.
Three homes, a barn and a hangar were destroyed in Guthrie. Ten mobile homes were destroyed and a church lost its roof in Chickasha.
One tornado left a trail of destruction and damage on properties when it touched down north of Lookeba in Caddo County and moved through Canadian County, Kingfisher County, Logan County and Payne County.
