DuQuoin, IL, United States (AHN) – Steve Arpin knows dirt so he was able to give Venturini Motorsports its first-ever ARCA Racing Series win on it Monday when he captured the 58th running of the Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

Arpin, wheeling the No. 55 Chevrolet, passed Tom Hessert on Lap 62 of the 100-lap event and never looked back, beating Hessert to the checkered flag by a half second.

“We had an awesome race car from the get-go,” said Arpin, who won his third career ARCA Series event. “We were real tight right off the bat. I was nervous. I was honestly more nervous than I’ve been in a long time about being able to get to the front.”

“But, Bill (Venturini, crew chief) and Kevin made an awesome adjustment during the pit stop and (they) asked me just to trust them. They hit it right on. I think that is the most fun I can ever remember having in a race car.”

Arpin, a native of Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada, cut his teeth racing in the dirt modifieds before jumping to stock cars.

“This one is just a little bit extra special to me because, like with my dirt racing background, that’s all I really have done before,” said Arpin. “To be able to come back here to the dirt and get an ARCA win is something I’ve really wanted, especially at this level.”
